Have you recently moved into a new house? Perhaps you are in the same house you've lived in for a number of years, but you've decided that it's time to do some redecorating. No matter the circumstances, if you are decorating your children's bedrooms, from selecting the window treatment for each bedroom to giving their new furniture a new look, here are some ideas that might help you to plan a unique living area for each child.

Start With Some Research - Of course, if your children are old enough to tell you what they would like in their bedrooms, that might be part of the fun of your decorating project. Consider taking one child at a time and looking through decorating magazines together. Or, just think of asking them questions like, Do you want your bedroom to also be your study area? or Name your five favorite colors? If your children are too young to give a lot of input, consider assessing the things they love and use that information as you decorate. For example, if your son loves anything to do with sports, you'll probably want to decorate his room with that in mind. If your little girl loves anything that has to do with princesses, you'll more than likely design a fairy tale room.

The Window Treatment - Go with the research you've done as you select each child's window treatment design. For example, if your little boy wants a bedroom with a western theme, think of using either red denim or blue denim for the window treatment. If you decided on a very feminine room for your little girl, consider buying eyelet fabric and then tying the curtains back with colorful ribbons. Have you considered simply selecting wooden shutters or mini blinds for every single window? They're so versatile that they will more than likely fit any type of decor you have selected. In addition, shutters and mini blinds are both very affordable and so easy to install that you can do the job yourself. In addition, wooden shutters and mini blinds will be very easy to maintain. Just dust them with a feather duster and, if they need extra attention, clean them with a soft cloth that has been dampened with a gentle cleanser.

Change The Look Of The Furniture - Think of giving your children's present furniture a new look, too. You can simply paint wooden furniture a new color, or turn wooden furniture into shabby chic furniture by roughing it up a bit and adding rustic paint. Or, you can upholster headboards with fabric that will complement the decor you have selected for each child's bedroom. For example, if you selected a sports theme for your son, think of buying fabric that has things like balls in the design.
